Auditions/Camera Practice

Last week our producer sent out emails and descriptions on social networks for the role of our male actor. We could have always used one of our friends if we really needed to but we really thought it would be benefit our film if we could try and get someone with acting experience.  After getting a few responses we decided to set up auditions. At this point our script was pretty much finished and we had storyboards and shot lists so we decided to rent the cameras out and record the auditions. This gave us a chance to familiarise ourselves with the equipment and how to set it up which would save us time when it come to filming.

We got the potential actors to rehearse some lines and play out some scenes from the film. This gave us a chance to see how they look on camera and also see their ability and confidence. As there another person on camera as well as myself we both took it in turns to record auditions. The other members of the group also carried out their respective roles as well as reading some lines to help the actors out with the scene they were practicing.

Once the auditions were finished we still had time in the room we had booked out so we spent some more time practising with the camera. We plan on having quite a lot of hand held shots in our film so we had to get comfortable with holding it and walking to keep it stable.

After the second day of auditions a few of us went to the location of the car crash scene to see how the location looks on camera. This is an important scene for us in the film so we wanted to get some practice in. Although we couldn't practice fully without the car we will be using , we managed to get an idea of what positions and angles we will shoot from and where the actors will be positioned.
